In games on April 7, 2010 at 12:06 pm

The largest Spartan warrior of all time returns to complete his revenge, this time in high definition and for the PlayStation 3. We are in the third adventure of Kratos to end the saga, a story in which our protagonist struggles against the gods of Olympus, whose objective is to kill the strongest of them. Kratos Zeus desire to exterminate his own father.

INTRODUCTION

The two installments of this franchise for the PS2 and PSP version remained always the same game concept, so that in God of War 3 has not changed the system. This new title is basically a “hack & slash” or arcade fighting game if you prefer. The development is quite linear, proceed through the stage through a single route available and we must defeat enemies to continue the game. It is certainly a great action title was focused entirely single player experience that will give us some epic moments not easily forgotten. Without going any further the principle is already impressive, then the adventure is “relax” a little, but of course the beginning is spectacular.

God of War III: Analysis

GRAPHICS

It could not have otherwise the graphic quality is sublime and substantial use of the console, as was done with the old PS2 system. Playing GOW 3 is a delight for the eyes, not only by the spectacular scenes but also for its excellent graphics. Going into the technical aspects to say that the typical work and maintains a native 720p image per second rate that varies between 60 and 30, obviously depending on the load chart is presented on screen. We lose fluency in combat compared to the old supply, but to change the vertical sync is active at all times, so we will never see the image torn.

It is particularly the work they have done with the modeling of Kratos, because it shows a very detailed and very convincing appearance. Probably the best video game character visually recreated there to date. His face, skin, muscles, metal strap, the whole is care. As for enemies and other characters say that their quality is quite high turn, but without reaching the Kratos has naturally. By contrast again see many well-known monsters and give us the impression that repeat over the account, although they have changed their appearance. That with respect to the normal enemies, because the level heads and are another story.

The scenarios also look great and their ambience is achieved. We travel by steep mountains, Greek cities, palaces and even interiors giant Titans, but still say that is still missing and more variety in the levels of showmanship. The elements of the scenarios (stone, metal, wood) play very well, but the actual design of the sites could have been better, as sometimes is guilty of “common.”

Another factor to note is the level of violence in the game. We already know that Kratos is not exactly a pacifist, but perhaps this time has elapsed. Blood flows in torrents in this release and finishing moves to defeat powerful enemies are extremely brutal. This camera showed close to appreciate it better, and sometimes first-person perspective to get most impressive scenes. Even Kratos’s body covered in blood just sometimes, something crazy.

Now for the effects of which I would highlight in particular the lighting. In this game, Kratos is a “lantern” that serves to illuminate dark areas, blind the enemies and find hidden treasures. The effect of light to wield weapons, which causes glare and shadows are good in general. The area also has good water quality and other effects like fire or rain are normal.
Finally talk about the videos, something that has undergone a change and I would say not necessarily better. Typically in this series was to create video sequences by computer to certain times, it was in the first game and with better quality even in the second. However, in GOW 3 there is not a single video itself, the whole story is told through cinematic (impossible to jump, by the way) using the game engine or with short sequences such as “comic” (is being fashion). According to such cinematic look good because the game’s graphics are excellent and have also used motion-capture for them, but it would have been even better quality that creates videos to show the player something new. Anyway, have been vague on this issue or have not had time to do so.

SOUND

This paragraph is not far behind in quality. God of War 3 uses DTS 5.1 enviable clarity and cleanliness. The voices, sound effects and music are listened to wonder, if we have the right sound equipment, of course. The music in this game has not changed substantially, we continue with the typical themes “apotheosis” using instruments orchestra and chorus in its composition. However, these issues can get loud to drown out the sound effects at times, so it would be nice to play sometimes with the music volume low to appreciate all the sonic detail and offering combat scenarios.

LOCATION

Of course GOW 3 comes entirely in Castilian to avoid breaking the standard pattern. Voices, menus and text, all in Spanish, as it should be. The work of Spanish dubbing can not say that is bad, although the choice of certain words may not have been very successful. This time, Kratos has a less powerful voice that fits so well with the character in my opinion. Fortunately for those who want to hear the original dubbing (very carefully of course) or even other languages know that the game contains multiple languages to choose from. In fact the disc from the European version is that data occupies more space because of this, but it does not matter because we talk about a Blu-ray 50 Gb in this case.

CONTROL

If you’ve played before a God of War will not have problems to handle Kratos this time, as the management is almost identical. The control is fairly simple, common and responds well, so that a user who has never played in this saga will have no problem with it done quickly. It is not possible to change the button configuration, but in reality as it comes by default and is comfortable to play.

The menus are typical options, adjust the volume of different sounds, brightness, language, etc … Nothing objectionable. As for the installation of the game know that HD does not exist, neither mandatory nor optional. With this in mind would say that the charging system is fast, and for the system to save the game worth mentioning that the game takes an autosave time to time, which is very useful if we have to stop playing before you get to the next save point or fail to overcome a part.
The camera system has not changed in this release, we continue with the usual third person perspective and viewing angle toward or away from the protagonist as appropriate. The camera is always on rails to show the scenes and action in the best way possible at the discretion of the programmer. The player has never been able to control it in the series and this chapter is no exception, although this time in certain places we can control it “a little.”

Gameplay

So far this analysis has been something of a “primrose path” to the game, but not everything is oregano gentlemen, we got to the negative parts of the title. Video games are for play, that no one can contradict me, and therefore playable appearance should be of utmost importance. In the case I must say the gameplay, without being bad, it seems to have been a priority for developers. As in previous releases this album includes a “making of” divided into parts so that the user can view the game creation process. The impression left is that the visual quality has gained prominence as the gameplay did not deserve the attention it should.

It is true that God of War 3 has new things, check certain beasts, flying levels shooting the wings of Icarus, the “lantern” (I do not muss the surprise that not know it), hang from the Harpies, fps scenes climb huge giants (rarely). However despite these details the game is not innovative, it draws too much from previous installments and gives the familiar feeling of “more of the same.” The arms are somewhat rare and visually similar, the repertoire of combos and keys practically remains the same and the puzzles are not too original or striking in general.

Typical parts of platform jumping skills have been removed, or rather changed by others that Kratos scale and rocks, making the game easier in that aspect. The aquatic stages of the first delivery have been taken up again, but in a very superficial and do not really have taken advantage. Clashes with the heads are good, but I noticed the fight against Hermes, the god fast. When you finally reach the struggle we have with him is ridiculous given the simplicity of it. An enemy was much faster gameplay, but this time completely squandered a good idea.
For dessert, the story can not be defined as either interesting or entertaining. Perhaps the background epic involving the game itself and the characters, but what good is said good, because it is not. As for the “grand finale” that promised so much because I was disappointed I really depends on the tastes of everyone but you may not like it as much as hope. Regarding the duration of the game they simply lied, it is not longer than the previous all. The first time if we go slowly, carefully explored and played in difficult it can take 15 hours to finish it, but the truth is that you can finish in half the time. The kinematics may mask its duration, but the truth is that there is a long game at all, though trophies are included.

CONCLUSION

The return of the invincible Spartan Kratos, the scourge of the gods, has been a bittersweet experience. Technically the game is wonderful, the graphics and sound, and performance offered by the PS3 are definitely its best assets. However, as I explained no significant innovations and the story is far from good. One detail that I have not mentioned before is that they finally decided to include the typical “sex minigame, with a result that for fun and nothing falls into vulgarity. And to think they wanted to remove it because it “did not fit into the story,” you have to hear. It is clear that when they want to do things well, the problem is that for reasons of time and budget to select what they do “good”, and the player wants the high price paid by all is well.

Well, I shall end once the question of rigor Is it worth buying God of War 3? The answer is mmm … psssí. You’ll discover a visual spectacle that will not disappoint you, but the title is not very long and has little replay value for practical purposes, so that the “exprimiréis” as fast as the previous except to launch downloadable content in the future. We can say that is the best installment in the saga, but we expected more.
