China has fastest supercomputer

In games on November 3, 2010 at 7:56 pm

Until a few days ago, the title of fastest supercomputer it had the Cray XT5 Jaguar, United States, but recently was defeated by a Chinese machine, which won it in all aspects. Tianhe-1A is faster, smaller and more efficient than the above mentioned computer.Uses 7,168 GPUs from NVIDIA and 14,336 CPUs, cost US$ 88 million, weighs 155 tons and consumes about 4.04 megawatts of electricity.

Supercomputers are always an interesting topic to talk about, because we cannot imagine what must be run games like Crysis in all its splendor. But speaking seriously, the record for fastest computer was reached again, evz here in China. Marked 2,507 petaflops, computer, which can be expressed as a thousand trillion floating point operations per second processing speed as record.

So far, the title was the Cray XT5 Jaguar at the Oak Ridge National Laboratories, but now has gained it Tianhe-1A, designed by the National University of Defense technology of China. Anyway, both computers share the kind of use, because it was built to a system of open access for large scale and high power calculations.Bad for a supercomputer that uses 7,168 GPUs from NVIDIA and 14,336 CPUs, cost US$ 88 million, weighs 155 tons and consumes about 4.04 megawatts of electricity.

Someone saw the USB input? Wanted to spend a few songs…

We are far from the 1.21 gigawatts required to travel in the DeLorean, but still much energy to a computer. But in spite of all the energy it consumes, it is an efficient computer for what it is capable of doing. This is because not only renders using the CPU, but it also has integrated various GPU (graphics processor), making it three times more efficient than a computer that uses only the same performance CPUs.According to Nvidia, a computer would thus required 50,000 CPUs.

Currently Tianhe-1A found their home at the National Supercomputer Center in Tianjin and is fully operational, showing where those were $88 million. And now that China stripped United States record, will be a matter of time until they respond in some way.Anyway, this new computer is faster, smaller and more efficient than the above-mentioned, so they will have much work ahead if you want to raise the bet.
